Except for the beautiful plates it contains much more information on rose culture, and the French society of Rose cultivators, with miniature portraits of the most important members.It also includes many plain plates, including photographs of rose gardens.Published in Paris, by Amat, (), royal 8vo, with 1 plate of portraits, 26 lithographs of which 16 are in full colour [Complete].Original pictorial wrappers, edges lightly stained & soiled and some small creases or defects to wrappers (see images). Bronze sculpture by Adrien Etienne Gaudez (French sculptor, ) titled "Etoile du Matin" (Morning star, nickname of the planet Venus). Depicting the embodiment of Venus, standing on a half ball with one leg. The ball is decorated with a zodiac with symbols. The right arm reaches to the starry sky (the star in the hand is missing). The base has a plaque with the inscription "Etoile du Matin par A. Gaudez Hors Concours". On the left bottom side of the sculpture stands the signature "H. Gaudez" (instead of A.; presumably a mistake from the foundry). The marble base is placed later on for stability.Size: Height excl. base ca 54 cm.Height of the pedestal 4 cm.Weight including: ca. 6.2 kg. Condition: In good general condition. The star in the right hand is missing. The base of the sculpture (bottom of ball) is slightly bent, which destabilises the sculpture a bit. This has been fixed by a metal plate that was placed between the bronze parts (see last picture), also the marble base placed later on brings more stability.
