William Laureston Hedges enlisted into the South African Union Defence Force on the 31 May and was posted to the Middle East to serve with the 8th Army. He served with the S.A 1st Infantry Division which converted into the 6th Armoured Division at the end of and would have been present at Gazala and El Alamein. William first served with 33 Coy Motor Transport Q.S.C then with 33rd S.A Mobile General Workshops Technical Services Corps and finally with the 44th Railway and Harbour Brigade - Tank Corps. William was discharged on the 11February after 3 Years 257 days war service. Service details typed and provided with the medal group when previously purchased, Identity Book Number (not included).
