Openwork silver spectacle case with corresponding belt hook,

Very fine openwork (on both sides!) spectacle case with many motifs, including scrolls, flowers and a satyr.Fitted with a leather interior. The case is connected to an accompanying belt hook by a silver chain, which has a (similar to the case) medallion with a head.Both the case and the hook feature - which I believe are - fantasy hallmarks from Hanau. At the end of the 19th century, many items were made in Hanau and then exported to England. These items had a content of 930, to meet the minimum English requirements of silver.I think this also happened with this case, as it is a typical English consumer item.What puzzles me however, is the Dutch duty mark from the 19th century (until ) and a kind of pineapple mark (in the 18th century, the pineapple was Augsburg’s town mark).However, I am sticking with my aforementioned opinion: they are fantasy hallmarks from late 19th-century Hanau.Apart from this story, this is a beautiful object, which is very finely made. Sebastian Buckley cornet, "Aqua Sulis", with an mouthpiece and case. Silver plated. A good starter cornet: fast response and easy to play. Has a sweet warm tone (see vid) and all slides and valves run smoothly. The instrument has received a full clean inside and out, is fully oiled and ready to play. There is a barely visible bump to the bell and the case has a tear. Neither affect the usage or playability. Selling because I play the trumpet and flugelhorn only and my need for space is greater than for a cornet. A silver plate job alone costs more than £100 for trumpets/ cornets so this offers great value! Can supply also a barely used Denis Wick 4 cornet mouthpiece for an additional £25 Testing before purchase is fine, item is in Hadlow, Kent. Contact me to arrange a time.
