Hurley Silhouette Mk III 17ft Bilge Keel Pocket Yacht

For Sale, our Silhouette Mk III, 'Spike'. Spike is in great condition and is a hoot to sail. Our reason for selling, is to move to a larger boat so I can take all 3 'crew' with me. He is a very handsome boat though. Spike can be launched from the trailer that he comes with or by crane if required. Kit includes, 2 mains, 1 foresail, fenders, ropes, anchors x2, Yamaha outboard (1 think 3.5 HP-will need to check), seat cushions, depth sounder, speed display. From the very active and informative Silhouette owners site: The Silhouette was designed by Robert Tucker, a naval architect who loved dinghy cruising, which involved sailing by day and camping on the bank or beach by night. Mr Tucker felt that it would be a good idea to make a dinghy with a lid on it and avoid sleeping on the cold ground. He did not fancy a capsizable craft, so he set-to and designed a little cruising yacht and the Silhouette was born. In the first one was built, called "Blue Boy", for the cost of £85. This was the Mk1 and 29 were built. With the success of "Blue Boy" Robert Tucker redesigned and built the Mk 2 and the first was named "Susanne"; she was built for just over £100 by Yarmouth Boat Builders. In a Mk2 was put in the London Boat, Caravan and Camping Show. It was at this show George Hurley first met Robert Tucker and saw the Silhouette, Mr Hurley was showing caravans at the same show. Around the same time Ernie Miners, a carpenter who worked for George Hurley, asked permission from George to build himself a 'Redwing' dinghy on the premises at Richmond Walk. Seeing the dinghy being built, George decided that his factory could also build boats. In George Hurley started to build Silhouette Mk2s and at the London Boat Show that year entered a Silhouette for the all-up price of £265. Around of these ply Mk 2s were build between and when Hurley had changed over to just GRP. In experiments where made with this new material called glass fibre, this was first used for sinks for the caravans and boats, then a mould was made for a Silhouette deck fitted into a ply hull. In Hurley also started building the Mk 2 in glass fibre. About 370 of these were built between and . In the Silhouette was redesigned again as the Mk3: round bottom, all GRP. About 365 of these were built between and . In the Mk 4 was designed and built at Hurley Marine between and and 25 were built. After Hurley Marine went out of business in , the moulds were sold to Russell Curnow of Marazion, Cornwall and Silhouettes were built there up to . R Curnow also built a Mk 5, the price in was £ complete. R Curnow also built the H18 after Hurley Marine. Minor Point Noted recently: After the heavy rain at the beginning of June the top ply on the starboard cockpit seat has lifted at one end. It will certainly last this season, but I'd probably want to replace it for next season, for cosmetic reasons. Very simple job. Will take half a day at most using the old one to cut round. Currently moored at Limekilns, Fife. Mooring is paid for this year and should be available for the future if you wish. This obviously needs agreement through the Forth Cruising Club. Yacht cradle suitable for a yacht around 32ft LOA. Would accomodate a larger yacht.

This cradle was used to store my boat last winter. I dismantled it and took it home and it is currently stored on a pallet in my garden. It is flexible and can be adjusted to fit larger yachts. It fits in the back of my large estate car or a van. It is quite heavy as it is sturdily built. There are a couple of acrows and various straps and chain that can be seen in the photos. Small Cruising Yacht - Thompson 27

Torsa II is a 27ft Bermuda rigged Sloop with GRP fin keel and inboard auxiliary engine. She is a solid and capable racing / cruising yacht, with deep bulbed keel and skeg hung rudder. Guy Thompson of Burnham on Crouch designed her. Her deep and heavy keel gives her excellent sea keeping, and predictable handling. The cockpit is big enough for six, the winches and sheets are within easy reach from the helm. The T27 has 5 berths in two cabins. Coming in through the companionway, there is a fair size galley to port, with sink and two burner stove. To starboard is a pilot berth. The saloon has two settee berths, with new covers in . The saloon has good standing headroom (approx 5'10”). There is a sea toilet with a door to close it off from the main cabin, and opposite is a storage area, for lifejackets etc. Forward is the normal V berth. This berth is big enough to sleep two adults. Torsa has undergone a major refit since . A new genoa (Saturn Sails) and roller reefing was fitted in . A Beta 14 diesel engine was fitted new in . A Beta 14 single cylinder diesel engine was fitted in . A new main and spray hood also from Saturn Sails were fitted in . A surveyors report is available dated March . Torsa is lying at the James Watt Dock Marina on the Clyde. Torsa has won her class in the annual King George V race at the Royal Gourock Yacht Club - the Hugh Young Quaich - three times. (). She has routinely wintered ashore under cover. Torsa is an excellent starter yacht for relative novices as she is very forgiving in the kind of weather we experience in the Clyde and Western Isles. She has cruised widely in both areas. In recent seasons we have cruised to the Small Isles, Mull and Islay. As with all boats of a certain age there will always be matters to attend to, however, some major work has been done; sails, engine and upholstery not to mention a refit to the galley and heads.
