All in original boxes and original packing. DS in pristine condition, from the s, complete and fully working in all respects and including a rare plastic dust cover, modified to allow the 7 inch reels to be left in place and even run with the cover in situ. (The cover was originally of a poor design in that 7 inch reels had to be removed before it could be fitted in place.) The electronics of this particular machine have been modified to the same standard as the MkII, particularly the ever troublesome, unreliable input amplifier ICs originally used in the DS, being replaced by discrete components as in the MkII. Also twenty used-only-once 7 inch reel-to-reel tapes in good condition (of assorted brands including Ampex, EMI and Shamrock) are included in the price. (These are each selling elsewhere for between £3.50 and £12 so their inclusion is an added bonus.) 2 empty 7 inch reels are also included The users instructions and a service manual are also included. What a rare opportunity for such an excellent example of this outstanding vintage machine with all these additional goodies. AKAI DS 3-head 2-speed reel-to-reel hi-fi stereo tape

One of the classic reel-to-reels from Akai, offering 2 speeds (3.75ips/7.5ips), off-tape monitoring plus mono/stereo recording and playback time of up to 3 hours per side (using a 7" reel with ft tape). All of the transport controls work fine - play, pause, record, fast-forward and rewind - and the machine is cosmetically in good/very good condition. Inputs/outputs:- on the front panel there are 2 microphone inputs plus a headphone socket; at the rear there are RCA line inputs (for CD, tuner, MP3 player etc.) and RCA line outputs (for connection to an amplifier) plus a DIN socket and voltage selector. A small piece of veneer is damaged at the back of the left-hand side panel and one of the rubber reel retainers will need replacing - this is reflected in the price.
