A selection of 's 'Lloyds Sixpenny Dickens publications of 8 books
I have a small collection of Lloyds Sixpenny Charles Dickens paperbacks, with original illustrations I've owned these for 40 years or so. They were found in an attic of a house I once owned, left by previous owners at some stage. An indication to the age of the books might be seen in the advertising, for example, a bar of ‘Vinolia’ soap is shown priced at 4d – which may indicate a date or period however there is no date on the publications themselves so it would be around . However there is no date in evidence on any of the publications. The set contains stories as follows: Martin Chuzzlewit, A tale of Two Cities, Dombey & Son, Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, Pickwick Papers, David Copperfield and The Life of Charles Dickens. The original illustrations are by ‘Phiz’ in some issues and by J. Mahoney, F Barnard F A Fraser in others. The publisher is noted as Edward Lloyd 12 Salisbury SQ., Fleet St, London and also as Tavistock St Covent Garden. The Printer is Ballantyne & Co Ltd Covent Garden London The condition of the books is not good as the paper has deteriorated but there are no pages missing and apart from the back cover, they are still bound although the binding strip is missing on some copies. The pages are yellowed with age and the grey out cover does show signs of spotting. They are being sold as a set and the price includes all 8 books. I would be happy to put them in the post them for a charge of £4.00 Ad ID: Delivery Service Consumer Credit
