Gate Post - Sandstone
I have a beautiful and very large (and heavy) Sandstone Gate Post for sale. It is antique and has been supporting an equally heavy cast iron farm gate, It is approximately 8' long but maybe 6' above ground; this area above ground it smooth and shaped whereas the area below ground has been left 'rough'. The rough area is much wider approx 27" and thicker approx 15" and helps to maintain stability. The area above ground being smooth tapers to approximately 9" thick by 22" wide but tapering further toward a rounded top. It will take probably two or three muscular/strong men with ropes and pulleys and a truck to move it. It doesnt need concreting as it will support itself once the hole is back filled and the ground compacted around it; as I say it has held a very heavy cast iron wide farm gate for many many years. My apologies it has been laying down under the trees, but obviously the post will not degrade in any way. I do also have a sandstone trough for sale; though this is completely separate to the gate post. Read More
