Click here to view this lot This is a very beautiful pure silver Order of the Rising Sun, seventh-class. Primarily granted to soldiers and non-commissioned officers. Of course, original and with the original (rare) black box. The set is in beautiful mint condition. The medal is made of silver with green enamelled decoration without damages, very beautiful!These medals are very rarely offered for sale in Europe. Unfortunately the pictures are somewhat dull, the medal looks much better in realitySome background information The Order of the Rising Sun (Kyokujitsu sho, ???) was founded on 10 April by the Meiji Emperor. It was the first Japanese knighthood and the great reformer Meiji followed the example of the European Orders. The design however is typically Japanese. Flowers were used. The Order is the third highest Japanese decoration. The Order was exclusively reserved for men until Ladies were distinguished with the Order of the Crown. The medal is shaped like a paulownia leaf with blossom. This decoration was awarded to non-commissioned officers but also to lower officials who had already received the Order of the sacred treasure VII Class.
