RIC 176, C. 370.Septimius Severus became emperor following a bloody period in which 5 emperors were killed in two years. After Pertinax was assassinated, Septimus spotted his opportunity. He killed the reigning emperor Didius Julianus and seized the throne. Septimius Severus was born in Libia and had friends in the highest circles.
