ANTIQUE FIRST EDITION Lorna Doone by R.D. Blackmore Thomas Nelson and Sons Ltd
I think this is a first edition, after the 500 print 3-part first edition a year earlier: It is complete (no pages missing) and intact (in one piece), just without the dust jacket, and doesn’t have a copyright date - it just says at the end of the short biography inside the front ‘…published in ’ – the Good Reads website says that – “…if the book is a first edition, the copyright date will be the same as the date published…”. Having said this, I am not an expert, so I cannot say this as an absolute certainty, but it does look this way having done the research and compared it with a lot of other versions: There aren’t any other dates to do with printing or publishing in it anywhere. It has 679 pages, and is about 12.8 x 19.8 x 3cm externally in size. Printed in Great Britain at the press of the publishers. Published by Thomas Nelson and Sons Ltd (London, Edinburgh, Paris, Melbourne, Toronto and New York). The cover is a hardback green fabric, with ‘Lorna Doone’, ‘R.D. Blackmore’ and ‘Nelson’ in gold capital letters on the spine. The top edges of the pages are also green. The inside pages and binding are all intact and in excellent condition. The green outer cover is starting to wear a bit in the sense that the green colour is beginning to fade, the corners and edges more than the front and back, and the spine edges in particular, but it is still not serious or raggedy. One corner (back top left) is a bit ‘fluffy’ from the inside of the fabric fraying a little, but is in no way serious – in fact you could probably trim it with some scissors and it would look fine like the other corners. It is nowhere near in need of any restoration processes in my opinion, and is in excellent to near mint condition inside. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Ad ID:
