RAKU KILN

DRUM RAKU KILN. Made from an Upcycled Oil Drum, this Raku Kiln is double lined with 2" of the safe `S` type ceramic fibre. It comes ready to use and includes a Clarke 48mm Torch Burner, complete with gas regulator & hose, flame intensity adjustment, and spanners. A 14.5" Kiln shelf and supporting fire bricks, damper pad and flame deflector. The lid fibre is secured with ceramic buttons and nichrome wire. Plus there is an inlet for a thermocouple, if you want to use one (not included). Guidance notes are provided, plus my own Raku Glaze Recipe which is tried and tested. The lid and main chamber have carry handles to make moving the kiln that little bit easier. Although it is not heavy, weighing a total of 20kg. You can use this kiln on your own, the lid being very easy to lift off at the right moment. I have been a professional potter for 40 years, and have fired Raku now for over 20 years. I run very popular Raku Days at my home studio. This design of kiln is tried and tested, and provides an affordable, portable option to other Raku kiln providers. Size external: 66cm High x 60cm wide. Internal: 40cm High x 46cm Wide Thats inside 16" x 18"approx, giving a pot placing area of about 2.5 cu.ft. This unique Raku Rabbit has been hand crafted from stoneware clay before being bisque fired to degrees, dip glazed and fired again in a Raku kiln.He was then buried in sawdust which flamed around him. Lifted by long handled tongs, Rabbit was then cooled in a tub of cold water before being scrubbed clean. At that point his individual markings became clear, distinguishing him from any other rabbit in the world. The carrot in the picture helps you to visualise his size which is approx. 14cms. It comes with 2 shelves and the props and the controller is a P300 the approx dimensions are Internal Length 37" Width 23.5" Height 9" External Length 42" Width including power box at back 33" Height including legs and castors 21" It has a slightly damaged top brick which can be seen in the photos 2.5" long slit which can be seen in the photos and a small section of the element has popped out of the groove so could do with being clipped back in. Podmore and Sons Ltd Kiln. Comes with various shelves, stands, etc which I've not got photos of but could make a list of (or show someone). All the innards look intact - I've not seen chips or cracks in the internal walls etc. It has the plug cut off the cable. I've never switched it on and I've no idea why the plug is taken off although electricity in the place it is stored is not 3 phase and so perhaps plug was removed to stop it being used with the wrong electricity wiring by mistake. I was told it was working when I was given it. Dimensions (external): from floor to top: 134cm (of which the top 76cm is actual kiln, the rest being stand/legs) width: 74cm depth: 90cm.
