Click here to view this lot After WW1, these earthenware houses were sold in France “pour les Gueules cassees”. The revenuw of the sale was intended for the wounded veterans that survived the war but were mutilated.This typical term was often used after WW1 for the many war cripples. The houses were filled with soil from the battlefield, in this case from the battle at Verdun, which was also called holy ground. Unfortunately this copy is empty and the bottom is open.
