HELP US FIND THE GENETIC CAUSES OF HEART DISEASE. You will be paid £25 + Free CD of your scan Study Title: Genetic Studies of the Heart and Circulation Approved by the NHS Research Ethics Committee (Ref: 09/H) Purpose of our research: The main purpose of the study is to develop an atlas of the human heart and to use this to look at the effects of differences in peoples DNA and genes on heart shape and function. The aim is to produce clearer images of the heart that, combined with genetic data, will be of benefit in diagnosing and treating diseases. To develop these techniques we need to scan and take blood from healthy volunteers first, which will then be compared with data from patients with heart, circulatory and inflammatory diseases. To be eligible you must be: Between the age of ; Not have any heart related health problems; Be registered with a UK GP; (Further criteria apply) Volunteering in the study will involve: 1. A 3D scan of your heart (MRI) 2. Taking a blood sample (the team may decide to take a saliva sample instead) 3. We will also ask some general questions about yourself 4. Measure your height, weight, and have some simple tests of your heart function. 5. Each visit may take approximately 90 minutes and is held at Hammersmith Hospital. After participating you will receive a free CD of your scan and we will pay you £25 for expenses after each visit. For more information email the research team
