Dursley Diagnostics - Quantum Tuning Dealer in Berkeley
The remapping process begins by reading the existing parameters that were programmed into the engine control unit (ECU) by the vehicle manufacturer. In the majority of applications this is achieved by communicating with the engine management system, using dedicated tuning software via a serial interface, through the onboard diagnostic (OBD) socket. The standard file is copied and downloaded by the installation engineer, who then e-mails the file to the software writers at Quantum Tuning. Quantum will re-write and return the file within the hour, and then - following a data integrity checksum of the modified file - the installer will proceed to encode it to the vehicle's ECU. At Dursley Diagnostics we like to commence with a prelude to the above procedure. Although it's a prerequisite for your vehicle to be in a good state of mechanical health prior to reprogramming, it's a good idea to make doubly sure and we do this by test-driving the vehicle (preferably with you at the wheel) while our engineer sits alongside with a diagnostic scan tool connected to your vehicle. As you drive he will observe live data from the various parameters that the ECU is controlling, and from this information conclude whether or not any pending trouble codes are present. This represents peace of mind for you, as through this procedure it's possible to detect impending component failure before a diagnostic trouble code is set, which will invariably result in an 'engine check' light appearing on your dashboard. This procedure is included in the cost of remapping.
