With her running mate Queen Mary, she provided luxury liner service between Southampton, UK and New York City, USA via Cherbourg, France. She was also contracted for over twenty years to carry the Royal Mail as the second half of the two ships' weekly express service.While being constructed, in the mid-s by John Brown and Company at Clydebank, Scotland, she was known as Hull ] but when launched, on 27 September , she was named in honour of Queen Elizabeth, who was then Queen Consort to King George VI and in became the Queen Mother. With a design that improved upon that of the Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth was a slightly larger ship, the largest passenger liner ever built at that time and for fifty-six years thereafter. She also has the distinction of being the largest ever riveted ship by Gross Tonnage. I am selling this VINTAGE RARE Cunard "Queen Mary" Last Voyage from Southampton Signed Picture which belongs to me, and I won this as a prize when I worked at Cunard in the late 's. It is now almost 50 years since she sailed from Southampton to her new home in Long Beach, California, USA. This picture is in a used condition, all original in its original heavy frame and has been stored away for the last several decades, and needs to go to a good new home. The picture of the Queen Mary is excellent, and is signed by the Captain: J Treasure Jones in black ink pen, dated 31st October The tugboat in the foreground is "Romsey" The paragraph at the bottom of the picture under R.M.S. Queen Mary reads: R.M.S. Queen Mary leaving Southampton for the last time on her journey to Long Beach. 31st October, . The 310 ft "paying off" pennant represents 10ft for each of her 31 years service. Very small chip on rim of teapot spout. Some age related wear/slight rubbing on saucers. Fabulously vibrant colours. Orange/white pearlescent luster ware tea set from Czechoslovakia, comprises teapot with lid, sugar bowl, milk jug, 4 cups & 4 saucers. Hand painted so there are some variations in depth of colour and coverage. Undated but from the style it is probably art deco from c's/'s. No makers mark but "Czechoslovakia" stamped on the base of some pieces. Teapot measures approx 19cm tall including lid x 19cm wide including handle & spout x 9cm deep Milk jug measures approx 7cm tall x 12cm wide including handle & pouring lip x 7cm deep Sugar bowl measures approx 6cm tall x 10cm wide x 8.5cm deep Each cup measures approx 5cm tall x 7.5cm wide including handle x 5.3cm deep Each round saucer measures approx 12cm wide x 1.5cm deep All measurements are maximum.
