The remapping process begins by reading the existing parameters that were programmed into the engine control unit (ECU) by the vehicle manufacturer. In the majority of applications this is achieved by communicating with the engine management system, using dedicated tuning software via a serial interface, through the onboard diagnostic (OBD) socket. The standard file is copied and downloaded by the installation engineer, who then e-mails the file to the software writers at Quantum Tuning.
