GREENER & Co ANTIQUE BLUE WHITE PEARLINE POSY BASKET

GREENER & Co ANTIQUE BLUE WHITE PEARLINE CONTESSA POSY BASKET VGC Blue and white pearline glass basket having raised hobnail pattern to the outer walls and handles. It has further ornate detail to upper rim finished with a scroll to each end. It stands 4 4/8 " tall on 4 small feet and is 7" long. There is a split to the white glass applied detail on the upper rim of the basket which was done during the manufacturing process and is not a crack or chip, it is where the glass was applied and the 2 ends meet. There is rd impressed to the base which was registered by Greener and Co on 3rd Nov . An identical bowl to this one is photographed in 'the Identifaction of English Pressed Glass' p85 colour plate # 16. In the index refering to that photo, it gives the description and says it was copying the blue pearline of G. Davidson & Co as pearline had been registered, this would seem to be a deliberate infringement. So pirating went on in Victorian times! Lol! There is no damage to this glass but there is one split in the white detail to the rim which is a manufacturing fault and is quite common in this style of glass. I collect glass and have done so for quite a few years and my collection has evolved in different directions covering various types and ages of glass as my knowledge in glass grew and I developed preferences and discovered different types of glass, but as a confirmed hoarder, have been reluctant to part from my surplus glass as I went on to the latest love as I love the way some glass behaves or changes in different circumstances. I've eventually decided though, to mainly focus on one or two style now and that my glass needs thinning out If you require any more info or need to see more images, please email me and I will respond as soon as I can. Good posy ring

GOLD FINGER RING 22K This is an astonishing piece of history. The ring has gone through the British Museum's portable antiques scheme. Below is taken directly from the PAS write-up. A complete gold 'posy' or poem finger ring of post-medieval date. The finger ring has a D-shaped cross section and a plain outer band. Internally is an inscritpion in cursive script which reads 'Let Love Ind'ure' (SIC). There is no maker's mark and due to this fact it is not possible to confirm that this ring is more than 300 years old, as finger rings with similar cursive script are dated from c.  AD. The legend 'Let Love Indure' could not be immediately paralleled however a similar legend reading 'As gold is pure let love indure' is recorded in Humphreys () A Garland of Love; a collection of posy-ring mottoes and is probably of 18th century date. As this finger ring cannot be securely datde to pre- AD, it falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act . The practice of giving rings engraved with mottoes at betrothals or weddings was common in England from the sixteenth century and continued until the late eighteenth century. Posy rings could, however be given on many other occasions as a token of friendship or loyalty. Posy rings could also contain religious and memorial inscriptions. The inscription is generally found on the interior of the ring, hidden to everyone except the wearer and most of the sentimental mottoes were taken from popular literature of the time. Width: 27 mm  Weight: 8.2g  Diameter: 22 mm It's a large ring and weighs in at a heavy 8.2 grams. I'm not prepared to post this item. Offers around please.
