In some new dinheiros, some typological details draw attention, not yet knowing what their function is, or whether they correspond to defects in mintage. We have already seen this with regard to the cross which has, in some cases, small curvatures or small wedges. Contrary to the other dinheiros, in the copies of Fernando I there sometimes appears a small annulet (or dot, or washer) on the central corner. The significance of such difference is unknown. Some authors suggest that it may have been used to distinguish different issues of the same coin.The dinheiros of Dinis I and those of Pedro I are often confused. The difference between the D and the P, the initials of the kings, is sometimes almost nil, or very difficult to identify (see Laulo Baptista outline, below). In general, Dinis's D coincides with the arm of the cross.
