The mattress's were not included when the bed was purchased, and so are mismatched but obviously not noticeable when sheeted, and are included in the price, making this even more of a bargain.It was intended as a space saver in my youngest sons (quite small) room. It has done it's job very well in that timeIt not only allowed him to have a friend stay over, but gave him a lot of extra storage space too.Now, he's a lot bigger than he was then, and we've moved to another house, so this has become surplus to requirement.It is made with great quality pine and designed to be both easy to assemble but be strong, sturdy and safe for your child.The underbed can be set up to pull from either side, as it is not attached to the top bed and can be pulled right out and away from top bed on it's own wheels. Each individual slat has countersunk holes for screws and every slat is made to be screwed at each end to side rails.
