At Peter Lynn we continuously strive to come up with new and innovative ideas to make kiting more accessible for a larger audience than ever before. With this goal Peter Lynn himself and Michel Dekker (foilkite designer at Peter Lynn Kitesports) set the challenge amongst themselves early of designing the most efficiënt traction kite to date. Some of the requirements were; lightwind perfomance, virtually indestructible, easy to fly, safe to use, and above all, they had to be simple to make to keep them affordable. The goal was to create a kite that is as bombproof as the NPW kites from back in the day but with the comfortable and efficient flight characteristics of modern fixed bridle foils. A foilkite that can easily release it’s pressure and stops pulling when you park the kite at the zenith. HOW? The obvious solution to making a foilkite bombproof is to eliminate the weakest trait, conventional foilkites can burst upon heavy impact because the air inside the kite can’t escape. So it was quickly recognized that the bottom skin had to go, creating a single skin. To get the single skin design to the point where we were confident about every aspect, we needed the kites to be stable and reliable without adding complex bridle systems. In September late stage prototypes were put through a rigorous test of functionality and durability; a Km kite buggy expedition through Mongolia where the single skins proved their excellence in small and lightweight packaging, ultra light wind performance and general handling & ease of use. WHAT? Single skin kites redefine ‘light wind’ powerkiting with their ridiculous low end, they have more pull per size than any comparable ram air foil while needing much less wind. They have a lift to drag ratio easily equivalent to modern foils, they are supremely easy to handle and deliver instant power. Single skin kites pack down really small and weigh a lot less than conventional traction kites, not only because they are made with about half the materials but also because they are 50 to 100% more powerful size for size.
