Persian palace rug Sarough Feraghan, 295 x 195 cm, circa
Welcome to Passion d'Orient:The village of Sarouk is located in the central region of Iran, approximately 40 km north of Sultanabad. The carpet production in this region increased significantly towards the end of the 19th century, thanks to the substantial export demand, originating at that time from the booming activity of the Ziegler company, whose headquarters were in the nearby town of Sultanabad. The sturdiness of the structure, the elegance of the design and the harmony of the colours, chosen from amongst the softest and most subtle shades, enabled the Sarouk rugs to be heavily exported to the West, and especially to the United States, during the 20th century. They use an asymmetrical-type knot which enables a higher level of density. Manufacture: Hand-knotted Size:295 x 195 cm. Thickness: approximately 10 mm.
