Mantlepiece solid oak. We have kept the oak fender visible in photo for another room. This is probably original to the house- . We have taken it off the wall as we have had a new larger wood burning stove fitted and the wood surround is not large enough for it. Would be fine with a gas fire for example. We used it with the smaller inset multi fuel stove pictured and before than with an open fire and it was fine. We really like it but cannot use it elsewhere. It has some fire damage on the shelf from an old candle fire. We just covered it with a mat. A good carpenter could sand or replace the shelf I assume. Otherwise it is nice varnished solid wood. The curved detail under the mantel shelf is quite unusual and has an Arts and Crafts look we think. Read More
