I am just beginning to delve into photography and a friend suggested this camera. I'm using an old canon FD lens with this camera so I'm having problems with manually controlling the aperture of the lens because of the converter. The camera itself is very pretty and has the oldschool film look to it. The pop-up flash that is built into the camera works but looks awful when hitting your subject dead on. The camera's controls work well and the touchscreen is an added bonus. The menus are simple but powerful, with on screen adjustments to help control color, blur, saturation, ect. as you're shooting. I don't have a very large memory card so I haven't been taking full quality pictures with this camera as of yet. Will update review once I get my 64 gb card.
This camera was the most expensive and capable camera in Oly's 12 megapixel micro four thirds line of cameras, when it was new in 2011. In 2012 this camera was replaced by the E-P5, which is much the same camera, only with an updated 16 megapixel sensor. In Oly's line, the PL series was the cheaper version, and the P series cost almost twice as much, with better features and functions, but all 12 megapixel Oly MFT cameras used the same basic image sensor and all take fantastic photos rivaling the best consumer DSLRs. The E-P3 is still an excellent MFT camera, six years out from introduction. It has superlative image quality, all metal construction, and it's made like a piece of jewelry. It has two function buttons, a function wheel, and a function dial on the camera body. The auto focus on the P3 is vastly better than the PL1 and PL2 and the P1 and P2 that came before the P3. The P3 gets focus fast and unlike earlier versions, the automatic focus really works, and makes movie clips much better. The P3 takes the same batteries as all earlier Olympus cameras and most of the cameras that are still made today. The cords and software are still current, and Olympus still provides product support and updates for the P3 and earlier models. Every Micro Four Thirds lens ever made will fit on the P3 body, and for posting on social media or viewing on typical tablets and computer screens the 12 megapixel sensor produces images better than the resolution of the devices the photos and videos are viewed on. It will even allow large prints to be made of the images. If you are wanting to try out Micro Four Thirds format cameras, I believe the P3 represents the very best bargain in 12 megapixel sensor cameras, and it certainly was the most capable 12 mp sensor camera in the Oly line.Read full review

Excellent camera,, good size, easy to operate. Makes lovely images, wonderfull b&w. Portable, takes Nikon lenses, ai, ais to shoot in aperature mode. Good bang for the buck, sensor showing its age. I am a retired 30 yr. news photog, always Nikon, but like the quality and style of the Olympus brand. Thanks, Bill.

Used older model (2011). Like new appearance. Picture quality excellent. Focus a bit slow but accurate. Image stabilization may or may not be working properly since warning icon blinks if IS is turned on. Price reflected this. Doesn’t seem to affect photo quality though. Other than IS everything on camera works just fine and it produces sharp, well exposed photos even in difficult lighting, with little noise at ISO’s up to 800. Minimal noise at higher ISO settings at least to ISO 6400. Higher ISO’s still very usable. Camera is easy to use once you get familiar with menu system. Quite satisfied. Can easily live without IS. Intended use is a camera for daily carry. Recommended.

The Pen Ep3 is a much improved version of my Ep1. Particularly in the "focus" alerts and abilities. Also the menus are better organized. I use my same lenses, of course as well as adaptors. And I use an electronic viewfinder.---Eric Westhagen
