These old Linksys routers still work very well when flashed with DDWRT firmware, this one I used as a "client bridge" to provide network to my static caravan which is some distance from the site wireless AP. This one came ready flashed with DDWRT :)

I bought this model because:: * it can operate at an extended range - with suitable firmware and appropriate config__ * it's a Cisco product so has a brand of quality__ * it has a built-in power supply__ * being Cisco, it has a wide range of config options__ * it's remotely manageable - not all Wifi routers are__ * it can be configured as a relay to the main broadband router - not all Wifi routers can__ * there are plenty of second hand ones available cheaply__.__ A novice would need help with config I would think.
These are great little routers, inexpensive and suitable for flashing with DD-WRT firmware. Buying used there is always a small chance of it being bricked, but the one I bought was fine.
