The computer I purchased for school was a 17-inch MacBook Pro (Mid-2010 version), which was customized at the time of purchase by original owner. Normally it would come with an Intel Core i5 processor clocked at 2.53 GHz, however mine was upgraded to an Intel Core i7 processor clocked at 2.66 GHz. The computer's RAM was also upgraded (possibly after purchase) to the maximum 8 GB from the standard 4 GB. The hard drive (disk) also was upgraded to 500 GB. The computer has the standard graphics setup: an NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 512 MB of VRAM and a power-saving Intel HD Graphics with 288 MB of RAM shared with main memory. These specifications aren't particularly impressive when compared to the latest lineup of Apple's new Retina-equipped MacBook Pros, however for a student with extra graphics capability needs, it works just great! Games work very well and the display handles HD films/videos with ease. The biggest reason I chose the 17-inch model is because I was upgrading from an Early-2006 iMac, and I didn't want to compromise screen resolution when switching to a notebook computer. The iMac (the larger 20-inch version) has a resolution of 1680x1050, which is a fair amount of screen space for windows. With both the 13-inch (1280x800) and the 15-inch (1440x900), I would have lost valuable screen space. This 17-inch model should normally come with 1680x1050, as previous 17-inch MacBook Pros have, but mine has a higher-resolution 1920x1200 display. Windows and text almost look as good as they do on a Retina-equipped MacBook Pro. Many argue that the 17-inch MacBook Pro is no longer made because the 15-inch Retina version has better screen resolution, but this isn't exactly accurate. The Retina 15-inch model still has the same window space as before (1440x900), the windows are just drawn with more pixels, giving them a clearer look and feel. However, this does not equate to more room on the screen. I believe that this 17-inch MacBook Pro is a great compromise between aesthetics, performance, size and screen space. I plan to use this laptop for years to come!Read full review
Really pleased with this. Very lightweight, fast, and it was so affordable. Been a fan of apple products since day one and this purchase and the overall quality of it only makes my love for them even bigger.
Excellent. Absolutely fantastic. There is nothing as good as an Apple product, and this laptop simply dominates it's competition.
