Hofner Senator Archtop Acoustic Jazz guitar This Hofner Senator is an early one. Overall, it’s in good condition, with some honest marks and scrapes. It’s loud and has a lovely sound. The binding is all in good condition and the guitar doesn’t have any splits. Someone has fitted a neck pickup (Now removed) in the past and the small screw holes can be seen at the bottom of the neck (see photos). This doesn't affect the guitar at all. If you decided to fit a neck pickup yourself you should be able to use the existing holes. The lacquer finish has some minor checking as you’d expect for a guitar with the original finish. The headstock is in good shape. The tuners have been upgraded with a set of Grover "Deluxe" tuners. The five triple-dot neck markers are all there and the Rosewood fingerboard is in good condition. As can be seen from the photos it still has the original Hofner compensator tail piece. The serial number of the guitar is which can be seen through one the "F" holes. The action at the 12th fret is about 2.5 to 3mm. Good for a guitar that’s nearly 60 years old. Overall a beautiful guitar, a great player, and a genuine piece of history, with a powerful acoustic tone, low action and when fitted with a pickup will give that original early 60s sound when amplified. I am sorry to sell it but a I feel such a quality vintage instrument should belong to someone who can spend more time than me actually playing it. This guitar would maybe suit a jazz player looking for a reasonable priced archtop with a big mellow sound or someone who appreciates a quality vintage guitar, again at a reasonable price. Vintage East German Parlour Guitar - Recently Restored What can I say about this other than "Wow" ! READ: I waffle on a bit, but I'm honest, and an experienced player, so read what I have written below, as I say it like it is, and can be trusted. This is a vintage Musima guitar from the days when East Germany were a forgotten country, behind the Berlin wall. It is probably 50 years old but I've done a great job cleaning her up, and restoring her, even if I say so myself, without losing any vintage charm. She's had a knock to the lower shoulder at some point in her life, (see pics) which you simply wouldn't see unless you wanted to stare at it, but the rest of her is very lovely indeed. Closed tuners, floating vintage bridge, and a new chrome tailpiece, together with a custom pickguard. Nice grains throughout, and a rather stunning sunburst finish. The guitar has had it's fretboard oiled, finish oiled, and tuners serviced, and the nut and bridge have been cut with luthier files to ensure no string snag. Fret edges smoothed and nut lubricated with vaseline and pencil lead. Zero fret lowered and crowned, and a brand new set of Martin custom lights added (11 gauge). The guitar has an action of just under 4mm at the 12th fret. No truss rod, so a slight gap in the middle, but not one that will stop you playing it. I set it up with a view to playing slide on it in various tunings, but as long as you can play, you'll still be able to play it in standard tuning for basic playing needs, and you're not just limited to Cowboy chords, as it does play up the neck too, but it's not going to be suitable for chord melody stuff, unless you have very strong hands. Certainly it isn't a guitar for a beginner, but somebody who is appreciative of collectable vintage guitars, and understands the value in vintage charm, over modern playability. NOTE: The case is NOT included as I'm already short of a few cases for my own guitars. Hard to put a value on a vintage guitar, so I'm going to say £299 or might consider a part ex / swap There is definitely not another like this, in this condition, for sale in the UK. Selling my Vintage 12 String Hofner. I’ve owned this guitar for 25 years and it’s had very little if any use if I’m honest over those years. I have had the guitar looked over previously by my local luthier who said what a fantastic piece of work the Guitar was. I’d took it as the scratch plate has become “bobbly” over the years. He said, “does it bother you?”. I stopped and thought about it and I figured I didn’t care. I wanted it to be original - warts and all. Changing it is a coupla quid should it be something that puts you off her though. I’d think long and hard first as it is pretty amazing this instrument is as it is. How many modern 12 Strings will be going this many years into the future? It’s very difficult to put a specific date upon manufacture but I have been told it’s most likely to date back to some time around the 50’s. So to the stuff I was told for sure! The Guitar is a 12 strong dreadnought, made by Hofner in West Germany. It is post apparently due to the truss rod. And now to the stuff I can tell you as her owner! This guitar is fantastic quality. The neck has stayed beautifully straight - it appears to have had some kind of repair at some point in its life but has had no issues during the 25 years it has lived with me! It has a few nicks and dings here and there (as shown) but surprisingly good condition for its age. It plays very nicely and has a lovely rich, aged sound to it. If you are looking for an affordable 12 string with an aged sound and “different” to anything else you’ll ever see anywhere else, this is your guitar. Comes with a good quality padded bag. Read more
