Odeo have designed a new flare as an alternative to the traditional red pyrotechnic distress flare. The Odeo Flare is a similar size to a conventional flares but instead of using dangerous explosives to emit light, it uses battery powered LED. The burn time for a traditional flares is around 30 seconds. The Odeo Flare 'burns' for approximatly 5 hours at full illumination. As no pyrotechnics are used, the Odeo Flare is completely safe when switched off, and because it uses battery power (high power lithium iron-disulphide cells), it can even be safely posted or carried in baggage on flights. Whilst originally designed for marine use, it's lightweight, safe performance means that it is incredibly useful for all types of outdoor activites. including mountaineering, skiing, expeditions among others. Here I am selling a Pains Wessex Flare Safety Container - It is RORC spec for Sailing Yachts that may be involved in racing. Even if you are not it is such great quality that it will keep flares ot any item dry.  I used to use it as our 'Safety Grab Bag' in event of emergency.
