Fragment carved from oak of an altarpiece group"Lamentation - or Cross of Christ". You see the grieving Madonna with hands folded together with one of the Holy Women. At the bottom is another part of Mary Magdalene’s body under the cross. The group still has some original polychromy and a beautiful patina. It dates back to the early 16th century (late Gothic period) and is of Flemish origin. The length of the carving is 28.5 cm. Mounted on wooden pedestal later on. The total height including the pedestal is 33 cm. The group is fragmentary and has old-age damage. See the pictures, which are part of the description. Read More

Click here to view this lot Oak sculpture group: neo-Gothic: - 2nd half of 19th century Belgium.Part of confessional.This nicely carved sculpture group reveals the hand of a master, the fabric expression of the robes and the facial expression of the characters is a sign of high quality craftsmanship. In the background we see the clear characteristics of neo-Gothic architecture: the buttresses, the stone window harnesses and, of course, the finials. Very interesting is the way in which the perspective is applied.The size of this sculpture group (consisting of 2 halves) is 71 cm wide x 53 cm high and 15 cm deep. Part from a church interior.The sculpture is 78.5 cm high. It is mounted on a round oak pedestal with nice details. This is originally not part of the sculpture and so is a later addition.The total height of the sculpture including the pedestal is 106 cm. The sculpture is mounted loose on the pedestal with a heavy iron pen with screw thread. The carving can easily be unscrewed and detached from the pedestal and suspended, if one so wishes. Set of Four Late C18th Oak Dining Chairs Pegged Construction

A Set of Four Late C18th Oak Dining Chairs Pegged Construction A good looking set of four late eighteenth oak dining chairs, with pegged construction. The chairs are made from solid oak which has a dark grain from age but then has areas with great patina from yeas of being touched. The chairs are basic in form with them having shaped back Supports with a plain thick top rest and two slender bar supports at the bottom. All three of the back rests and the bars have line carved design on them. The base of chairs are done with the front legs tapered and the back legs square and shaped. Each has strengthening support bars and cross stretchers. The chairs have been covered in a plain white material, the seats lift in and out for ease to recover if wished. The chairs are made with a pegged construction and are still sturdy even after 200 plus years. The chairs date to around . Size Height 34.5” Width ” Depth 18.5” Condition The condition of the chairs are excellent with lights scuffs, marks and scratches, could do with recovering but don't have to be, overall excellent commensurate to the age and use they have had ready to be used for years to come.
