A very rare navigator deck monitoring timepiece, the so-called "combined sidereal and mean time watch".Designed for the celestial navigation at sea, by Svante Elis Strömgren, Jens Olsen and Cornelius Knudsen (talented Danish watch makers who were the first to obtain the Danish patent of February for their invention).Case: silver, polished – Approx. Ø 60 mm – approx. 185 gDial: original enamelled dial – sub-dial with radial Arabic numerals 24 hours at "3" – sub-dial with radial Roman numerals at "9" and outer radial Arabic subsidiary dial with extra seconds, continuous 24 hours sidereal time and a chosen time zone or Greenwich time.Two hands, single blued Breguet hand and a gold hand with sun indicator. Movement: Anchor chronometer – Balance with gold screws – Nice setting mechanism – Wolf cogwheels.Sidereal time is the time Earth needs to complete one rotation around its axis.Because it is based on the rotation of Earth relative to the fixed stars, it is called sidereal time (sider = star in Latin). A sidereal day is 23 hours, 56 minutes and 41 seconds.The sidereal time mechanism can be connected to / disconnected from the time setting.Very rare pocket watch, only 4 pieces known.One of these 4 watches was part of the famous Gerd Ahrens collection and was auctioned in October for more than €. The Navigator features a Lemania caliber automatic chrono module featuring two independent chrono hands, one keeping track of the seconds and the other one of the minutes. The chronograph hour register is positioned at six o'clock, while the running seconds register is at nine o'clock. The dial is an enamel dial in chocolate brown. If you pay close attention to the pictures you can still see the texture from the brush utilized to create this beautiful piece. The calibers are often linked with the Omega calibers .
