Moorcroft Carousel: Centenary piece 6 inch Ginger Numbered edition 479 by Rachel Bishop.
Moorcroft Carousel: A Moorcroft 'Carousel' Centenary piece designed by Rachel Bishop for the Moorcroft Centenary. 6 inch Ginger Jar designed around Daffodils, Rosehips and Primroses. Numbered edition 479. Designed by Moorcroft’s senior designer Rachel Bishop, the central feature of the Centenary Carousel was the 14” Charger carrying a mix of fruit and flowers, all of which had been used by Moorcroft designers at one time or another during the preceding ninety-nine years. Spinning away from the Charger were four more Rachel Bishop designed vases all using a combination of woodsmoke and jade as ground colours and each design developed around a section of the main Charger. Perhaps the strongest vase in the centenary Carousel was the familiar Moorcroft ginger jar, where the ground colour was monochrome rather than “washed”. To make the design work Rachel Bishop used daffodils, rosehips and primroses with the leaves and flowers of the daffodils framing the rosehips and primroses achieving a striking impact in the process. The design flows beautifully onto the vase and is particularly effective creating a stunning, memorable and highly sought after piece. The Carousel had numbered editions with each piece in the Carousel range given a unique number. This wonderful piece of Moorcroft, launched to celebrate the Moorcroft centenary in features a rich and intricate design of daffodils, rosehips and primroses representative of images used on the main Charger. • The Ginger Jar is 6 inches tall. • This piece is number 479 from the centenary year. • It has the Centenary Mark “H &C” for Roman hundred (some of the later numbers were made after the centenary year in and bear the “iron” mark) • It has the factory impressed marks • Copyright 96 mark. • It has the painted monogram of William Moorcroft • Paintress mark of Sylvia Evans. • Tube-liner mark of Joyce Keeling • John Moorcroft signature dated in gold. The prestigious Centenary Year included a number of special occasions John Moorcroft attended during which he signed his name “on glaze” and dated the piece for the purchaser. • Original certificate included • Original box. This piece is in perfect condition with no damage or restoration. It is guaranteed first quality with no silver line or red dot. I have owned since new, displayed very occasionally and has been mostly stored in its original box with slip cover. The addition of John Moorcrofts signature, Sylvia Keeling as the paintress, the correct year and relevantly low number make this an exceptionally collectable example. I have all of the Carousel editions for sale. The rich mix of colours used on all 5 pieces are very much in the Rachel Bishop idiom. The designs are sharp and clear and very special indeed. The 4 other Carousel editions are available for sale separately. I will sell individually or as the complete Carousel. All perfect as above. See adds. Probably the best available. I have a very good knowledge of Moorcroft and will be happy to answer any questions or queries you may have. Price £400. Plus postage and packing.
