It is the capital of the province of East Azerbaijan.The current carpet production is very extensive. The quality is enoughfrom excellent arts and crafts to simple and cheap  Bazaar products. A good Tabriz rug has a rather short pile. Thepatterns usually consist of medallion surrounded bygarden motifs and arabesques. Another popular motif are the fourseasons, the life of the farmer in spring, summer, autumnand winter signs.Tabriz carpets often have the additional name Raj.
