The ring I am selling is a tribute ring;it is not Elvis' actual ring. The Owl: is sacred to the Greek goddess of learning, Athena and is even depicted on some Greco-Roman currency as asymbol of status, intelligence and of course, wealth. In ancient Egyptian, Celtic, and Hindu cultures the symbolic meaning of owl revolved around guardianship of the underworlds, and a protection of the dead. In this light the owl was ruler of the night and seer of souls. A misunderstanding of this necessary relationship gave the owl some negative associations with death. It should be clear that the owl was honored as the keeper of spirits who had passed from one plane to another. Often myth indicates the owl accompanying a spirit to the underworld - winging it's newly freed soul from the physical world into the realm of spirit. Being aware of the owl's symbolic meanings is a good way to connect with this fascinating creatures, and also become more in-tune with the owl's wisdom. A little history about one of Elvis' owl rings: " One of Elvis' actual owl rings is a 14-karat yellow gold owl ring and was spontaneously gifted by Elvis to Connie Murray Denny during his concert at Sahara Showroom in Lake Tahoe in May of . The ring is accompanied by a partial red scarf from the concert, a newspaper article briefly attesting to the account and a letter of authenticity from Connie Denny which best describes the encounter. The letter states in part, "...On the particular night I received this ring, I was sitting stage side and Elvis' girlfriend at the time, Linda Thompson, was sitting near me. During the show Elvis threw out a red scarf. My friend had it in her hands when another girl grabbed a hold to take claim of it. Neither one of them were going to give it to the other, so I took the scarf and ripped it in half and gave each of them a half. I believe that Elvis saw this gesture and at the end of the show he went along the stage shaking hands. He then came over and motioned for me to stand up so I did. He leaned over and gave me a kiss as he took my hand and put the ring in it. I said you dropped this in my hand. He smiled and bowed with his cape wide open and said no I gave it to you. At first, I didn't realize what he had done. I turned to Linda Thompson who was still at the table and showed her the ring and said that Elvis must have accidentally let this slip off his finger. She assured me it was no accident...." The ring was re-sized by Connie so she could wear it, now approximately size 7 1/2, and the segment of ring that was removed in the process was made into a necklace which Connie gave to Elvis in Vegas when she attended another concert there. Between the ring, the scarf, the newspaper clipping and the story, it just doesn't get any better than this. Elvis appreciated kindness and rewarded it with his generosity. The 14-karat yellow gold ring in the shape of an owl's head, weighing approximately 21 grams, has a feather of 5 diamonds, measuring approximately 0.07 carat in total, in the center of the owl's head and is flanked by black star sapphire eyes, measuring approximately 5.2 mm...."
