Lion Spear, Masai 19th Century, in Rotherham
Before Firearms this was the ultimate weapon in Africa, used by the Masai but copied by others including the zulus, this is 180cm long, blade is 70cm and the spike is 50cm, beautifully balanced but heavy, this still has a razor edge to blades, they were made with socket heads because if they needed to travel through dence Bush it was easier with 3 pieces, also the spear end Becomes a razor sharp small sword or machete, the spike was used for digging this saved the blade from damage, this came from a collection one of several I bought in the seventies whilst in the RAF, this is not a tourist piece it is a superb piece of african history and considering the tech available at that time superb workmanship, I haave found two others for sale at J C Militaria, one at 245 the other at 275,mine is priced to sell, because of size collection is reqd, unless you arrange your Own carrier, I would be happy to pack it, thanks
