Great present. Heavy, solid brass construction. Highly polished interior set in antiqued patina finish outer case. The glass covered magnetic compass has a flip up sundial indicator vane (gnomon) enabling use as a timepiece in conjunction with the Roman numeral clock face. Classic compass, ornament, paper weight and conversation piece. The diameter is 7cm and the closed height is 2.85cm. When open, with the vane raised and the lid reversed onto the base, the overall height is 6cm. The weight is approx 210 grams. Bought as presents but not ultimately given. Two available at £27 each. A Freiberger 'Yacht' Sextant in superb condition. Manufactured in Germany. Serial number: Including: - original fitted wooden case with lock and one key. - test certificate showing serial number of this sextant.. - handbook (in English) - adjusting wrench. This really is in superb condition and ready for use. I bought it (second hand) 7 years ago with the intention of making a trans-Atlantic voyage but circumstances intervened and I have never used it. It doesn't look to me as if it has ever been used. There is no sign of corrosion and the silvering of the mirrors is unblemished.
