It is page 108 from the book.The leaf was handwritten and illuminated around in northwest France, perhaps Brittany.Each initial is written in gold or blue against a background of refined penwork in red or black.Fourteen lines written in black ink, ending with a line filler in blue and gold paint.Size of the leaf: cm, the type page: cm.The text and the illumination are in very good condition. The edges of the leaf are brownish, perhaps because the book was kept in a smoky room. Manuscript leaf from a psalter on vellum. With signed certificate of authenticity from an art dealer. A psalter includes the 150 psalms of the Old Testament that were attributed to King David. The psalter was a very popular book among laymen and clergy before the 14th century, and was the forerunner of the book of hours. The leaf, folio 103 from the psalter, largely contains Psalm 119.At the beautiful initial L begins psalm 119, verse 33, which continues on the next page, up to verse 50. Normally a new psalm starts with a large initial. In this case the psalm is long and cut in pieces. Indicated in red is that the psalm of David continues.The leaf was hand-written in Metz, France, around .The 20 lines of text are written in black ink. The large initials are gilt-heightened. All small initials are gilt-heightened or written in blue and decorated with red or blue penwork.High-quality leaf and clear, sharp text. The decoration, the gold leaf, is still in perfect condition. The leaf edges are brown, probably from the smoke of a fireplace. Stain on verso at initial M is due to extra meditation at this line. Size of the leaf: cm, the type page: cm.
