This letter is written for a marshal and concerns the general commander Touzard the genius of the army of the Rhine, who must receive a letter prescribing him various orders for deliveries of 300 tools etc etc general Touzard being in Würzburg, there was a misunderstanding, which he will have to explain afterwards.The watermarked paper is branded J. September ) was the Duke of Nevers and Rethel, 8th Duke of Mantua and Duke of Montferrat.He was the son of Ludovico Gonzaga (Mantua, – Nesle, ) and Henriette of Cléves, Duchess of Nevers and Rethel.Charles I, upon the death of Vincenzo II Gonzaga, the last Duke of the main Gonzaga branch, married his son Charles in Mantua on 25 December to Maria Gonzaga, daughter of Francesco IV Gonzaga.Maria was carrying in dowry the Duchy of Mantua and Monferrato, the title of which his father-in-law acquired for himself with the intention then to transmit it to Charles. However Cesare II Gonzaga, Lord of Guastalla claimed the title by unleashing the war of succession of Mantua and Monferrato, from to Charles died on 14 August in the castle of Cavriana where he was convalescent, leaving two small children. His only son Charles became the 9th Duke upon the death of Charles I in as Charles II.
