~ Late 16th / Early 17th Century Cabasett Helmet ~ The cabasett is a Italian variant of a morion, a type of open helmet used from the middle of the 16th century till the early 17th century. The steel helmet, of typical tall morion shape, is formed from one piece of metal consisting of a high crown with ridge and a 'pear stalk' terminal to the top; the stalk-like projection resembles a pear, which is how it gained its name. The rim is set with rivets backed by brass florets. There is a worn punched armourers mark of a soldiers bust in profile to one side. A number of rivets have been attached around the roped brim. The helmet is pierced twice so it can be carried on twine. ~ Dimensions ~ The helmet has a height of (26 cm), a width 25.5, a depth of 11 inches (28 cm) & a inner circumference of 22 inches (55.9 cm). The set weighs 2.28 Kg. ~ Condition ~ There is some old repair work along the brim. The piece remains in otherwise good order, free from any significant dents. Double-faced Janus - marble high-relief - early 19th century

Beautiful and refined high-relief depicting Janus, the purely Roman deity able to see past and future. In classical times, it was often used as an overdoor or at bridge entrances, with its faces watching in both directions like an entry and exit guard, that is it was used as an apotropaic symbol. Once its use was discontinued (perhaps due to a renovation) it was purchased by my father at an early 19th-century farmhouse in the Roman countryside. It is sculpted in high-quality Carrara marble, with some grains. Still with its original patina and minor wear from ageing, it shows clear signs of consummation to beard and hair on the left face, just above the forehead (probably due to water stagnation), and a small tear at bottom of the neck, where the artwork is complete with a beautiful inscription in Latin "IANUS". Objectively in a good state of preservation. On back, there are two holes allowing to fix it to a wall or an hanging marble slab through metal pins (one of which still partly exists).45 x 39 x 7 cm, 18 kg. Read More

very old Jian sword from China 17th century, 7 points or 7

There are characters on one side (older?) who look different than the ones on the other side (younger?). Sheath 79 cm long, 6 cm wide (without chain hooks). Bottom bracket with orth-ribbon in one piece. Blade is 76.5 cm long and 4.5 cm wide, blunt, on one side of the blade there are 4 thick Chinese characters and 7 stars are etched or engraved and then painted red. On the screen, the characters look rather rusty, but are remnants of red paint. On the other side a dragon is stored etched or engraved and still clear, with gold or yellow color. Knob, "quillons" and fittings could be bronze (likely because there is partly green patinat). The knob has a drilled hole of about 6 mm in diameter on the back. Why??? Handle: smooth (not rough) dark (probably stained) turned (or carver was perfect) wood with 4 decorative grooves. An animal figure at the parry plate wobbles, because these are screwed on.
