I believe that the dinner gong originates from the early part of the 20th Century. The frame is ebonised hardwood and overall in good condition for age. The frame measures 84 cm in length and height 53 cm high. The gong is 24 cm in diameter. I think the gong probably originates from the Middle East, possibly colonial. Old Fire Engine Bell Dinner Gong in Canonbie

I have for sale this Old Fire Engine Bell This item has been used as a dinner bell and comes with a striker made from wood with a soft head. The Bell has a Chrome finish and is approx 195mm in diameter at the bell mouth and approx 134mm high. The wooden frame is finished with Varnish and is approx 240mm high, 290mm wide and 260mm deep. Its a lovely piece of functional memorabilia. The surface of the bell has a number of little indentations and is rough to the touch. The striker is stored under the bell in a cradle.
