What is a foundation degree ? A Foundation Degree (FdA) is a two year undergraduate qualification which combines work experience with academic study but with highly vocational applications. It is ideal for those students already in work or wishing to gain work experience while studying for an award which will enable them to develop their career to a higher level. Aims of the Programme Enable employers, students and the College to work collaboratively to enhance the quality of practice. Develop students as critically reflective practitioners who are committed to ongoing learning in the workplace. Enable students to understand and appreciate diversity and challenge inequalities and discrimination. Develop student competence in independent learning to a level commensurate with a Foundation degree level award. Provide a relevant education for those working within health and social care settings. Promote knowledge and understanding of people across the life course from an interdisciplinary perspective that draws on social science disciplines of Health Studies, Sociology and Social Psychology. Promote knowledge and understanding of the wider social context including policy and service provision. Progression opportunities Successful students can enrol for an additional one year top-up to gain a BA(Hons) degree at ABI College and there are further opportunities to progress to postgraduate study such as an MBA and MA with us.
