Couple of large finely carved angels in white statuary
This pair of 18th century angles, is finely carved in white statuary marble. They originate from Italy, while the maker is unknown.Being parts of an architectural altar construction, they were placed on either side, on corners, or on top of the construction. They still have their original bronze pins on the back, where the wings should be, which are unfortunately lost in time. Bronze rings show us that the statues were hung on a strong hook. On the left angel's knee you see it was formed to kneel on a part of the structure, while the right angel is freestanding. Some small damages on nose, hands, feet, and on the neck of one of the angels, see pictures. No restorations are done by us. Fine details make them charming and elegant, typical of the 18th century:see their faces, hands, the finely shaped textile wrapped around them, the grapes or the cornucopia...Measuring 70 x 40 x 30 cm, and made in white marble, these are really heavy statues. The angel on the left side is clearly heavier than the right one. They count dozens of kilograms each, so no shipping. The buyer has to collect them in Antwerp, Belgium. Read More
