Large hand made West African fixed key Balafon

This beautiful hand made west african musical instrument is a kind of xylophone aka as a pitched key resonator. It has fixed keys which are strung over a fixed frame with graduated size gourd resonators with membrane holes. The balafon is 910 cm long and 390 cm wide at one end tapering down to 265 cm wide at other end. It has rubber band headed mallets. The rubber bands are likely to need renewing to some degree over next few years. There may also be some repair work needed to some of the strings suspending the gourds on the wooden frame. Ad ID:

Maker’s metal label to side. In excellent condition, very sturdy and strong 18" wide x 12" deep x each or £150 the set Iroko is a large hardwood tree from the west coast of tropical Africa that can live up to 500 years. It is one of the woods sometimes referred to as African teak, although it is unrelated to the teak family. The wood colour is initially yellow and darkens to a richer reddish brown over time. West African hand carved hardwood stand. 16" high-11" diameter. Heavy hard wood, nice colour. A hand carved stand from West Africa. Overall height 16 inches. Carved in three pieces, to round pieces 11 inches in diameter and the contorted figure of a man, and then fixed with iron nails. I don't know what the wood is but it's a heavy hard wood. It has a very nice colour, and seems to have some age to it. Some signs of wear, probably from polishing. Collection from Nonington CT15 4HY
