Gilded plaster Virgin XVIIIth century - early XIXth century Original gilding with gold leaf, superb condition and very nice patina.(a few slight lacks of gilding due to partial chips, see pictures)The very delicate face is treated soberly,the carnation is created by a flesh colour glaze.delicately enhanced with colour to highlight the facial features.Both hands are missing.No flaw or cracksGood overall condition the sphere on which rests the Virgin represents the Earth.Base has a blue patina.This base was originally full colour or very probably also gilded with gold leaf.The Virgin has open arms, standing on the Earth, she is crushing the snakewho eats the original sin apple.in Christian iconography this depiction of the Virgin Maryis the new Eve,.in contrast to the first Eve, with Adam, who succumb to the temptations of the devil.then she crushes the snake, meditative and prayerful she allows, by Jesus who will born of her, to form the new alliance between God and men.59 x 22.5 cm Read More
