All our firewood is responsibly sourced from local, well managed woodland and is either cut buy ourselves or a local trusted forestry contractor. The main species we use for our firewood are Beech, Ash, Silver Birch, Hazel and oak. Once the timber has been cut and extracted from the woods it is taken to our yard where it is processed and split into logs and naturally air dried in our purpose built barn until the logs are perfectly seasoned and ready to burn on your open fire or wood burning stove. The average size of our logs is between 8 and 10 inches long. SUSTAINABILITY The majority of our firewood comes from thinnings and coppiced trees. Thinning is selectively removing certain trees to improve the growth and health of the trees remaining. Removing these trees also allows sunlight onto the woodland floor. Coppicing is also hugely beneficial to the woodlands. It is a traditional method of woodland management whereby the tree is cut down close to the stump which encourages new growth and in time the process is repeated therefore producing a renewable source of fuel.
