  Ancient Roman Bronze Hand Amulet Necklace

Up for auction is this stunning Roman bronze hand amulet from circa the 1st Century AD.  This was purchased from an antiquities dealer in Bath about 10 years ago.  Flanking each side of the amulet is a turquoise bead.  The turquoise compliments the oxidation in the bronze (must be from the copper content in the bronze).  A silver wire attaches these to a contemporary rubber cord with a sterling silver clasp.  Suitable to be worn by either gender.  Apologies for the photos, they really do not do it justice. The amulet measures approx 13mm high x 7mm width x 4mm depth.  The turquoise beads are approx 10mm - 12mm length x 6-7mm diameter.  Overall the length of the necklace is 52cm. Nice and wide strap handle attached at shoulder and folded up and under rim.  A lovely, free standing piece.    10.5cm tall (4.1 inches). Intact condition! A blue-green faience amulet of Anubis, with the head of a jackal, measuring 36 mm high, pierced for suspension. Repaired, lower part is from a different piece.some faience remaining, Egypt, Late Period, ca. B.C. Anubis was the Egyptian god of the dead, tombs and embalming. Anubis was depicted with the body of a man and the distinctive black head of a jackal or dog. The underworld was called Duat and believed to be full of terrible, great dangers. Anubis greeted the souls in the Underworld and was believed to protect them on their journey. The jackal headed god was also associated with the ritual of mummification.
