Welcome to Passion d'Orient:The Koliay/Koliai are semi-nomads of Kurd ethnicity, who live in a rural area between the centres of Songor, Asadabad and Kirmanshah, where their rugs can be found. The rugs are made to be fairly heavy and sturdy, with a relatively high-cut pile. Their wool is of good quality and features a satisfying shine. The field is divided into diamond shapes by a continuous grid consisting of stems and tiny rosettes. Sometimes, the decoration features spandrels, and in other cases, it extends freely over the whole field. The central medallion is also an element sometimes inserted in this design. Another feature of this design is the colour used for the background which is always a camel-hair brown, while red is often used on the edges.
