Die Aufnahmen von Superzellen, die er mit seiner Großbildkamera einfängt, zeigen gewaltige Wolkenmassen in immer neuen Formationen - sei es vor oder während eines Tornados, von der roten Abendsonne beschienen oder bedrohlich dunkellila bis schwarz bei Nacht. Meisterhaft demonstriert Erskine die Ambivalenz zwischen der Angst einflößenden Macht der Natur und ihrer beeindruckenden Schönheit. At the age of 12 Kevin Erskine (born in Sharpsburg, Illinois) witnessed his first big storm: a category 4 tornado, with wind speeds of over 207 miles per hour, raged through the center of his hometown of Hoskins, Nebraska. Fascinated and inspired by this immense force of nature, Erskine began taking his first photographs, using his father s camera. His passion for photography and respect for nature still motivates him to capture supercells with his large-format camera. The photos depict enormous cloud masses in continually different formations, whether before a thunderstorm, during a tornado, in the red evening sun, or by a forebodingly dark purple or black night. Masterfully, Erskine demonstrates the contradiction between the frightening power of nature and its impressive beauty and all of this without any digital processing.
