Welcome to Passion d'Orient: Sanandaj, formerly known as Senneh, is located in the heart of Kurdistan, about 150 km from Hamadan. Its name means fortress of Sanan. The name of this city is very famous because it also gave its name to the Persian knot, which in fact is also called Senneh. But, paradoxically, in the rugs realized in this zone, one uses the Turkish knot (Ghiordes). These are traditionally rugs of a small format, although in contemporary production, the demand of foreign markets has also encouraged the realisation of larger formats. The decoration consists of the repetition over the whole field of tightly decorated and tiny decorative motifs from the most frequent Herati to the boteh, to the so-called hasht goli (eight flowers). Commonly, these patterns can be enclosed within concentric diamonds of contrasting background colour.Hand-knotted.Dimensions: 157 x 114 cm. Thickness: about 10 mm. Age: c.
