In addition, this book contains the two engravings that could be ordered as an extra: the portrait of Vondel opposite the title page and “Barnevelt in den hemel”. Palamedes is a play in defense of the stadtholder Van Oldenbarneveld who was executed in , and an attack on stadtholder Maurice. The play was banned and only first published in along with Vondel's other satires, by the Rotterdam publisher Pieter van der Veer, who apparently did not dare to use his own name, so the book was published by the fictional publisher Pieter Brakman from Amersfoort.
