Johannes von Capestrano ( gründete Franz von Assisi () den Orden der Franziskaner. Gute 200 Jahre später nahm Johannes von Capestrano () die Herausforderung an, im Zuge der Observanten- bewegung für die Ideale des Ordensgründers zu kämpfen. Franz von Assisi steht für den evangelischen Geist der Einfachheit und der Natürlichkeit, innige Christenliebe und tätige Nächstenliebe. Johannes von Capestrano ist in einer Kriegerfamilie aufgewachsen, zum Richter und Beamten ausgebildet worden und trat schließlich dem Franziskanerorden bei. In vorliegender Arbeit werden das Leben, die Ordensgründung und die Ideale Franz von Assisis vorgestellt. Anschließend wird der Armutsstreit im 13. Jahrhundert beschrieben und die Zeit bis zum Beginn der Observantenbewegung Ende des 14., Anfang des 15. Jahrhunderts kurz zusammengefasst. Nach einer Darstellung des Wesens und Wirkens Johannes von Capestranos wird abschließend das Leben und Wirken im Orden der beiden später Heiliggesprochenen verglichen. Es wird erörtert, ob Johannes von Capestrano als würdiger Nachfolger des Ordensgründers bezeichnet werden kann.
