In the Second World War, Jan van Oort () created the Paulus the woodgnome cartoon character; from his adventures were published in newspaper Het Vrije Volk. Van Oort called himself Jean Dulieu (French translation of Jan van Oort). Eventually, around daily strips would be made between and . In addition to these newspapers publications, Paulus also appeared in a large number of magazines and children's books, in colour and in many countries. This wonderful lamp, which has been restored to perfection, was designed by the French engineer Jean-Louis Domecq, commissioned by Jieldé. It was mainly used in factories as a work light. The unique feature of this lamp is the hinge point. Typically, a loose wire is used in these pivoting lights, which causes friction and hence frequent breakage at the hinge points. The French engineer devised a secure, unique and patented alternative in in which copper plates are placed between the hinge point. These rings conduct the current, so wire damage will not occur.
